Data Sorts in iWorks "Numbers"

Postby RexinMinn » Mon Mar 19, 2012 2:16 pm

I am unable to perform a specific data sort (for example, just one column) on my spreadsheet without it sorting the entire spreadsheet. I select the column I wish to sort and whatever I pick from the "Reorganize" tab on the toolbar, it always sorts every column, not the columns I select. Is there something I can do to change this? I know it isn't working right. I'm using 2.0.3 which probably needs upgrading.

On a similar note, my Mac's "Grab" feature isn't grabbing. Is there a way I can download a new version of it?

Thanks.

That's the way it's designed to work. Numbers treats each row as a single record, and keeps that record together when the table is sorted.

You can sort the data from a single column by temporarily moving it to a second, otherwise empty, table, sorting it there, then putting it back into its original table, using cut and paste in both directions.

Grab is part of the system software. You might be able to do a Custom Install from your original installation disk, but I doubt that will cure the problem.

Try some basic trouble-shooting first.
Log on with to your computer through a second account (create a test account if you need to), and try Grab from there. If all is fine, the issue lies within your regular account, probably in a corrupted preferences file.

In your regular account, locate Grab's plist file, and drag that to the desktop. Then log out, log in again (to your regular account) and try Grab again. If the issue has disappeared, you've found the culprit. Trash the plist file and carry on.
